The exam was earlier set for June 15, 2025, but it was delayed following the court’s instructions. NBE officially announced the postponement and mentioned that the new date would only be shared after getting approval from the Supreme Court.

This means that it may not be possible to hold the exam before this date. The exam was postponed earlier, which caused a lot of confusion and anxiety among medical students.

Now that this date has been shared in court, students can start planning their preparation accordingly. However, it is important to understand that this is not the final confirmed date yet. The exam date will be officially confirmed only when NBE releases the notification and admit card on their website.

In a recent update to the court, the NBE shared that its tech partner, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), has confirmed that August 3 is the earliest practical date to organize the exam smoothly across the country in a single shift.TCS explained that the time between May 30 and June 15 was too short to make arrangements for such a large exam in one shift. This is because more exam centers in more cities and extra hardware setup is now needed.

TCS also mentioned that earlier, the exam was scheduled to be held in two shifts at the same examination centers. But to switch to one shift for over 2.4 lakh candidates, more than 1000 test centers need to be booked. Managing such a huge number of students will require considerable time for preparation. Because of this shift to a single session, the entire application process will be opened again. Students will also be given a fresh opportunity to select their preferred exam city. After getting the updated city choices from candidates, the NBE will reassign test centers based on availability.

Students will be told about their exam city at least two weeks before the exam, and the admit cards will be issued about 4 days before the test so they have enough time to make travel and stay arrangements.The Supreme Court bench, made up of Justices Vikram Nath, Sandeep Mehta, and NK Anjaria, observed that holding the test in two shifts may lead to unfairness, as it is difficult to ensure both shifts have equally difficult question papers.
